Memphis Redbirds News Release

MEMPHIS, TN - The Memphis Redbirds continued a 12-game homestand with a 3-2 loss to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp at AutoZone Park on Wednesday night.

In his first appearance off the Injured List, Connor Thomas tossed 3.0 innings of scoreless baseball. With this his first start since June 4, the left-handed pitcher allowed two hits, walked one, struck out three and got five of his nine outs on the ground.

The Memphis offense was shut out through eight innings just one night after the Redbirds scored a season-high 17 runs against Jacksonville. To lead off the ninth inning, first baseman Luken Baker drilled his 27th home run of the season for his 80th RBI. Memphis then loaded the bases with no outs and could only bring home one run.

Memphis had the bases loaded with one out twice in the game and came away with just one run total in those situations. The only bases-loaded run-scoring play for Memphis offensively was a double play off the bat of second baseman Nick Dunn.

The Redbirds (53-51) return to AutoZone Park on Thursday, August 3 to continue a 12-game homestand at 7:05p.m. CDT against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp.
