August 19, 2022 - International League (IL)
Rochester Red Wings News Release
The Red Wings drop their third straight in Worcester Friday night, 9-3. The loss marks 11 consecutive series Rochester has either dropped or split, with their last series win coming on June 5 against Buffalo.
The Wings opened the scoring in the top half of the first, as 1b John Nogowski singled in CF Andrew Stevenson, who drew a walk to begin the contest. This is the fourth consecutive game the Wings have scored a run in the top half of the first, and the ninth straight game a run has been scored in the frame by either team.
Worcester would take the lead back in the second on a two-run shot off the bat of Connor Wong, his 10th of the year. Two innings later Franchy Cordero launched a grand slam to make the score 6-1. The pair of Woo Sox hitters have crushed five homers over the past two games.
Rochester cut into the lead in the 7th, as Nogowski delivered a sacrifice fly, his second RBI of the game. LF* Josh Palacios* would score on a wild pitch two batters later to make the score 6-3. Worcester answered back in the bottom half with their third long ball of the night, this time a solo shot from Abraham Almonte to push the lead back to four.
The Woo Sox would add two more in the eighth, and the Wings would go scoreless in the final two frames to make the final score 9-3.
Rochester RHP Franklyn Kilome took the loss, working 3.2 innings allowing six earned on five hits, while striking out eight including four straight to begin the game. Five Wings pitchers were used to cover the final 4.1 innings, including 2.1 hitless frames from RHP Cutis Taylor (1.1) and LHP Francisco Perez.
The two teams will face again tomorrow in the fifth game of the series, as Rochester looks to avoid the series loss. RHP Cade Cavalli will get the ball for the Wings, coming off a performance in which he punched out a season-high 11 batters. First pitch is set for 4:05 pm.
