Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Wheeling, WV- Dominating the first period, the Wheeling Nailers jumped on the Kalamazoo Wings scoring four times in the period and never looked back in a 10-1 victory at the WesBanco Arena.

Scoring his 10th goal of the season, Blair Yaworski gave the Nailers the early lead 3:20 into the contest. Before the crowd could get settled, Aaron Clarke (14th) added to Wheeling lead 17 seconds later, snipping a shot from between the circles.

Midway in the frame, Wheeling's leading scorer Thomas Beauregard (29th) extended the advantage to three goals. T.J. Fox (18th) capped off a three point period of himself (1 goal, 2 assists) with a power-play tally with 17 seconds remaining in the first.

Setup by a neutral zone check by Mitch Versteeg (2nd), the defenseman would find the puck and skate it down the ice to get the K-Wings on the scoreboard with an unassisted tally.

Later in the period a double-minor on Darryl Lloyd would prove costly to the K-Wings, as Beauregard (30th) and Fox (19th) each on the penalties to give the Nailers a 6-1 lead.

Not letting up in the third period, the Nailers recorded four more goals, including two on the power-play. Fox finished the contest with seven points (2 goals, 5 assists), while Beauregard had five points (2 goals, 3 assists).

The 10 goals scored by Wheeling are the most allowed by Kalamazoo this season and the nine goal defeat is the worst suffered by the K-Wings.

The victory by Wheeling coupled with a loss by the Toledo Walleye put the Nailers into second place in the North Division, while the loss by Kalamazoo extended their season-high road winless streak to six games (0-5-0-1).

The K-Wings will return to Wings Stadium on Friday, February 12th with a 7:30 p.m. face-off versus the Johnstown Chiefs on Metro PCS Night and Scout Night. Friday's contest is also a Frugal Fan Friday, which features $1 beers and $1 hot dogs.
