Grizzlies Rally Again; Win 4-3 In Shootout
February 6, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release
Victoria, British Columbia - The Utah Grizzlies (21-19-2-3) battled back from down 2-0 and 3-1 to complete their second comeback in as many games with a 4-3 shootout win Friday night in Victoria.
Utah trailed 4-1, 5-2 and 6-4 with less than seven minutes left Wednesday before tying and falling 7-6 in a shootout. The Grizzlies are now 3-0-0-1 in their last four games.
The Grizzlies found themselves trailing 2-0 just 2:54 into the contest as Wes Goldie banged home two goals 50 seconds apart as the Grizzlies struggled in their own end. However, Grizzlies goaltender Mitch O'Keefe would then stop 23-straight Victoria shots, including 30 of 31 to finish the game and then all four in the shootout.
The Utah comeback began on the power-play as Lance Galbraith tipped home a Ryan Kinasewich shot with just two seconds left to go on the special teams situation and Utah made it 2-1; 12:47 into the second period.
Each team scored in the final minute of the second period in a four-on-four situation as Wes Goldie picked up a Utah turnover and walked in to make it 3-1; giving Victoria their two-goal lead back. Utah responded however just 25 seconds later at 19:36 as Vlady Nikiforov snuck in through the backdoor for his tenth goal of the year. Tony Romano and Tim Maxwell picked up the assists.
In the third period, Tony Romano knocked in a lose puck with 8:56 left in regulation to tie the contest as he and Nikiforov capped off multiple-point nights.
AJ Perry and Brett Parnham scored in rounds four and five of the shootout to seal the victory and eliminate any need for the homestanding Salmon Kings to shoot in a fifth round.
Utah and the Salmon Kings complete their three-game series Saturday in Victoria. Face-off is again scheduled for 8:05 p.m.
The Grizzlies return home Wednesday, February 17 to host Victoria and begin a five-game home stand. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
