
Utah Runs Unbeaten Streak To Five

Victoria, British Columbia - The Victoria Salmon Kings (27-17-4-1) defeated the Utah Grizzlies (21-19-2-4) 3-2 in a shootout Saturday night at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. The Grizzlies, collected four of a possible six points in the standings on the weekend jaunt to Vancouver Island; going 1-0-0-2 in the three-game series that saw all contests go to shootouts. Utah now is unbeaten in five-straight games at 3-0-0-2. The Grizzlies gave the Salmon Kings, who are now 18-1-0-1 in their last 20 home games; dating back to November 14, all they could handle in the series.
For the third-straight game, Utah was forced to come from behind as they fell down 1-0 4:53 into the contest on a Victoria power-play goal. The Salmon Kings would hold a 1-0 lead for the next 30:09 before Utah tied things up on an AJ Perry redirection for his 19th goal of the year at 15:02 of the second period. Ryan Kinasewich and Peter Aston picked up assists. The Grizzlies took their first lead of the night with just under seven seconds left in the middle frame as Lance Galbraith knocked in a power-play goal, his fourth score in the last five games for the Grizzlies. Kinasewich tallied another assist for his 22nd multiple-point game of the season in just 41 played.
Victoria tied things up just 2:06 into the third period with a Wes Goldie goal, but the goaltenders would take over from there. Both Utah's Mitch O'Keefe and Victoria's Leland Irving made some spectacular saves through the third period and into overtime. O'Keefe (14-8-1-3) stopped 31 of 33 leading up to the shootout.
Victoria won the shootout 4-3, scoring on all four chances as they improved to 6-1 in shootouts this year.
Utah now stays on the road to open a three-game series starting Wednesday in Idaho. Face-off is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
The Grizzlies return home Wednesday, February 17 to host Victoria and begin a five-game home stand. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
