Walleye Roar Back for Shootout Win 2-1

(Wheeling, WV) Tyler Sikura capped a comeback for the Walleye by scoring in the shootout for a 2-1 win Friday night in Wheeling. Toledo has an overall record of 38-15-2-3 and 16-10-2-2 on the road. Toledo is back home Saturday night vs. Norfolk.

The two teams went back and forth throughout a scoreless first period of play. Wheeling held a 9-8 shot advantage in the first. The Nailers took a 1-0 lead when forward Cody Wydo was able to bat a loose puck past Walleye goaltender Jake Paterson at 3:07 of the second period.

Toledo came out pressuring the Wheeling net early in the third period but were held at bay until Dominic Zombo (7th) evened the game with 5:03 left in the third period. The overtime session saw multiple odd man rushes and a breakaway from Josh

Shalla that was stopped by Wheeling goaltender Brian Foster.

The Nailers took a 2-0 lead in the shootout but Toledo scored three unanswered goals from Shane Berschbach, Kyle Bonis and then Tyler Sikura to pick up the victory.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jake Paterson finished the game with 29 saves on 30 shots and has a record of 14-8-1-1 on the season. Paterson has won seven straight starts. Toledo is 4-1-0 against Wheeling this season. The Walleye penalty kill has not allowed a power play goal against in 29 straight shorthanded opportunities over nine straight games. The Walleye have a record of 6-3 in shootouts this year.
