Manchester Monarchs News Release
Manchester, N.H. - The Manchester Monarchs couldn't get into a rhythm all night, and fell to the Reading Royals, 5-1, Friday at the Verizon Wireless Arena.
The Monarchs (36-17-3-5) have now split the season series with the Royals (29-23-5-3) with two games left to play.
"We didn't play very well," Head Coach, Rich Seeley, said. "We obviously didn't play well enough to get the result we wanted, but we will learn from this and move on."
The Royals opened the scoring at 4:21 in the first period when Cam Reid netted his 16th goal of the season. Reid skated to the top of the crease after receiving a Kevin Goumas pass and beat Monarchs goaltender, Michael Houser, with a backhand low glove side.
The Royals extended their lead at 10:11 in the first with an unassisted goal from Goumas, his 2nd tally of the season. Goumas stole the puck on a turnover in right in front of Houser's net and sent a quick shot top-shelf to push the Royals lead to 2-0.
The Monarchs bounced back with a power-play goal from Mark Anthoine at 17:47 in the first period. From behind the net, Joey Diamond saw Anthoine parked in front of the Reading cage and fed him the puck for a one-time, five-hole shot past Royals goaltender, Martin Ouellette, giving him his 9th goal of the season.
The Royals took a two-goal lead when Todd Perry netted his 2nd goal of the season at 8:15 in the second period. Perry collected the puck from a scrum at the left point, skated to the top of the left circle, and sent a shot past Houser's glove to put the Royals up, 3-1.
The Royals closed out the second period with a goal from Joey Sides at 19:18. Kevin Young took a shot from the top of the left circle and the loose puck fell to Sides just to the right of the goal. Houser stopped Sides' first chance, but Sides continued to battle and roofed a shot past Houser for his 11th goal of the season.
The Royals capped off the night with a goal from Brandon Alderson at 12:48 in the third period. A rebound from a shot by Ian Watters came out to Alderson at the point where he took a slap shot and scored high glove on Houser, ending the scoring at 5-1.
The Monarchs return to action Saturday March 12 (7 p.m.) in a rematch against the Reading Royals on "Max's Superheroes Birthday Night." The Monarchs will be wearing Girl Scout specialty jerseys that will be available for purchase in a silent auction, and the first 4,000 fans in the building will receive a Max Superhero Bobblehead.
