Josh Brown Recalled by Portland, Monarchs Ink Two Former UNH Wildcats

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Manchester Monarchs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations, Rich Seeley, announced today that Josh Brown has been recalled by the Portland Pirates (AHL), Mark Meads has been released, and the Monarchs have signed former UNH Wildcats, Harry Quast and Kyle Smith to ATOs.

Brown, 22, has played in 48 games for the Monarchs in his rookie season, scoring 12 points on one goal and 11 assists while posting a +17 rating and 71 penalty minutes.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound native of London, Ontario, has played in five games for the Pirates this season over the span of three recalls. With the Pirates, Brown has recorded one assist. The 152nd overall draft pick of the Florida Panthers in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft played for the Oshawa Generals (OHL) for four seasons prior to being drafted, playing in 230 games, scoring 53 points on six goals and 47 assists, logging 303 penalty minutes and a +64 rating.

Meads, 24, played in one game for the Monarchs after signing an ATO with the team March 3. The 5-foot-8 forward made his ECHL debut March, 8, 2016 against the Adirondack Thunder, recording one shot. Quast, 25, played in 102 games for UNH over a four-year career, scoring14 points on two goals and 12 assists. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound defenseman is a native of Chagrin Falls, Ohio. In 2015-16, he played 33 games and tallied one goal and three assists for four points, with his goal coming in a home contest against No. 13 Notre Dame on Jan. 23.

Smith, 24, played in 110 games for the Wildcats over the span of four seasons, and scored 34 points on 12 goals and 22 assists. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound forward is a native of Lumberton, N.J. Smith had 15 points on six goals and nine assists for the Wildcats this season and played in all 37 games for UNH. He tallied a career-high two goals in a 3-1 road win over No. 4 Providence College on Jan. 30. Against Maine on Dec. 5, Smith dished out a career-high three assists to help the "Cats to a 5-2 win over the rival Black Bears.

Quast, Smith and the Monarchs are in action tonight (7 p.m.), when they take on the Reading Royals from the Verizon Wireless Arena.
