Fuel Get Key Point in OT against IceMen
March 11, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Indy Fuel News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indy Fuel captured a valuable point as they continue to fight for a playoff berth in the ECHL's Western Conference after a 2-1 overtime loss to the Evansville IceMen on Friday night.
Goaltending was the story of the game for both teams, with Mac Carruth (29 saves) and Christopher Bengstberg (38 saves) making several great saves to keep the game close. Bengstberg made three big stops in the final minutes of regulation to help Evansville get to the overtime period where they would secure the second point on Nathan Moon's goal 31 seconds into the extra session.
Moon cut in on the left wing and dragged the puck to the slot, beating Carruth back to the stick side and banking the puck in off the goalpost.
Cody Sharib opened the scoring for Indy at 10:04 of the opening frame, putting home a Peter Schneider backhand pass for the 1-0 advantage.
The lead would last less than five minutes when Ryan Penny scored his eighth of the season at 15:02 on a cross-ice feed from Alex Wideman at the side of the Fuel net.
The season series wraps up tomorrow night in Evansville as the two teams meet for the 11th and final time at 8:15 pm ET. The Morellis Cleaners Indy Fuel pregame show starts 15 minutes prior to puck drop on CBS Sports 1430.
