Colorado Eagles News Release
(West Valley City, UT) - Eagles defenseman Collin Bowman notched two goals and a pair of assists as the Colorado Eagles defeated the Utah Grizzlies 6-2 on Friday. Colorado scored three goals in the second period, while goaltender Clarke Saunders made 28 saves to collect his 10th win of the season in net.
Colorado would jump on top just 4:16 into the game's opening frame, as Bowman fired home a rebound from the slot in his first game back since receiving a call-up to the AHL's Rochester Americans. The goal was Bowman's 13th of the season and gave the Eagles the 1-0 advantage.
The Grizzlies would knot the game at 1-1 when forward Ryan Hayes deflected a shot from the point on the power play past Saunders with 2:13 remaining in the first period.
With the game tied at 1-1 heading into the second period, Colorado would again grab the lead after Bowman took a pass across the blue line and one-timed it into the back of the net with 6:10 gone in the middle frame, giving the Eagles the 2-1 edge.
The Eagles would earn their first power play of the game midway through the second period and they would take advantage. Forward Trent Daavettila would feed the puck to fellow forward Curt Gogol on top of the crease, which Gogol then backhanded into the cage to give the Eagles a 3-1 lead with 9:39 remaining in the period.
Just minutes later, Colorado found themselves back on the penalty kill, but a turnover forced by Bowman would spring forward Johnny Lazo on a shorthanded breakaway which he would finish off by lifting the puck past Farragher to make it 4-1 Colorado with 7:53 to play in the second period.
Colorado would extend their lead to 5-1 when forward Tyler Fiddler forced a turnover that was grabbed by Jesse Mychan and fed into the net at the 6:31 mark of the third period.
Utah would answer back with 5:26 remaining, as forward Jon Puskar took a drop pass on a 3-on-2 rush and lit the lamp with a wrister to cut the Eagles lead to 5-2.
The Grizzlies would opt to pull Faragher in favor of the extra attacker with just under five minutes remaining and Colorado would capitalize, as Daavettila found a loose puck at the red line and rifled it into the empty net to seal the Eagles 6-2 victory.
Colorado has not suffered a regulation loss in their last eight consecutive games, including seven victories.
The Eagles and Grizzlies will meet again on Saturday night at 7:05pm MST at the Maverik Center in West Valley City.
Tickets for groups of 15 or more start at just $14 per seat and can be purchased by calling the Eagles ticket office at 970-686-SHOT (7468).
