Elmira Jackals News Release
GLENS FALLS, NY - March 10, 2016 - Another game and another win for Shane Owen and the Elmira Jackals. The sixth-year netminder turned aside all 24 shots faced tonight at the Glens Falls Civic Center to lead the Jackals past the Adirondack Thunder, 2-0, for the team's fifth consecutive victory. Since the Jackals acquired him from Indy, Owen is 3-0-0 with a 1.00 goals-against-average and a .954 save percentage in three starts. Mark Bennett and Zach Cohen scored for the Jackals.
Mark Bennett opened the scoring at 11:21 of the first period burying a tap-in from Matt Garbowsky's pass on a two-on-one rush. Garbowsky increased his point streak to five games with the assist and Bennett's ninth goal of the season was his sixth point in his last six games. Each team went 0-for-2 on the power-play in the opening frame. Shane Owen turned aside all eight shots faced in the first 20 minutes.
The Thunder turned up the heat in the second period firing 12 more shots on target but Owen coolly turned each attempt aside and sent the Jackals into the third period with a 1-0 lead. Adirondack received the only power-play of the frame and did not convert.
The pack stifled the Thunder attack in the third period reaching the halfway point of the third period without allowing a shot on goal, and the first shot for Adirondack was a dump in from the neutral zone. Zach Cohen added an insurance marker at 13:05 for his 11th goal of the season. Allan McPherson fed Cason Hohmann who raced ahead down the left wing side then stopped at the top of the circle waiting for the trailer, Cohen, for a one-time bar-down bomb past Drew Fielding. Adirondack pulled their goaltender with two and a half minutes remaining but Owen would not be denied from his shutout bid.
Owen stopped all 24 shots faced to earn his second shutout of the season and first as a Jackal. He now has three wins in as many tries for the Jackals and has 16 overall wins on the season. Fielding allowed two goals on 19 shots faced and was handed the loss.
