Utah Grizzlies News Release

West Valley City, Utah - The Las Vegas Wranglers (31-17-2-1) defeated the Utah Grizzlies (28-20-4-1) 5-2 Friday night at Maverik Center.

Las Vegas outshot Utah 11-4 and had a 1-0 first intermission lead as Colin Long buried a puck off of an odd-man rush.

Utah outshot Las Vegas 23-4 in the second period and got the equalizing goal from Giffen Nyren in the high-slot with 4:12 left in the frame. Dave Schulz, who held the puck in at the point, and Chris Donovan who started the play by picking up a lose puck in the neutral zone picked up assists.

"We played a pretty good 60 minutes, we might have taken the odd bad penalty and had some bad bounces, but I thought we outplayed them definitely the last 40 minutes," said Grizzlies Head Coach Kevin Colley. "We need to bury our goals, we have open nets and we're missing them and it's costing us games, but I'll take the effort and move forward to tomorrow."

Utah took a 2-1 lead in the third period on a five-on-three power-play goal from Nyren again 7:59 into the period as Paul Crowder and Hugo Carpentier picked up assists. The lead though stood just 26 seconds as still on the five-on-three, the Grizzlies didn't connect on a pass that went the length of the ice and past Utah goaltender Marc Rinfret. Las Vegas took a 3-2 lead 2:13 later at 10:38 as they buried a power-play goal and then added two goals in the final 3:01 to cap the game.

Marc Rinfret made his third professional start in place of Andrew Engelage, who was recalled to the AHL's Toronto Marlies earlier in the day.

Utah and Las Vegas meet again Saturday at 7:05 p.m. for Angel's Hands night and the fifth annual "Pooch on the Pond." Fans are invited to bring their dogs to the game. The Grizzlies will be wearing specialty jerseys that will be auctioned off live after the game with all proceeds going back to the Angel's Hands Foundation.
