Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Mathieu Aubin buried a pair of goals while rookie netminder Brian Foster turned aside 25 shots to lift his Cincinnati Cyclones (22-20-6-3) to a 5-1 win over the Toledo Walleye (23-22-3-1) in front of 4,198 at U.S. Bank Arena on Friday night.

For just the third time this season, Cincinnati jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Just 2:31 into the opening frame, Eric Kattelus' (CAT-ell-us) turn-around shot deflected over Toledo netminder Joe Palmer (L, 33, 9-11-1) and into the net for a 1-0 Cyclones lead. Then, at the 11:11 mark, a Mathieu Aubin wrist shot found the twine for a power play tally and a 2-0 advantage. Just over six minutes later, at 17:22, Aubin struck again as he slid home his second of the night after catching a beautiful Kattelus pass to extend their lead to 3-0 heading into the first intermission.

Not even four minutes into the middle stanza, Paul McIlveen stashed his seventh goal of the year to widen their lead to 4-0. On the other end of the ice, Cyclones rookie netminder Brian Foster (W, 25 saves, 1-0-0) continued to play extremely well in his ECHL debut, turning aside several great Toledo chances to keep the visitors off the scoreboard through 40 minutes.

In third period, Chase Watson banked a shot off Palmer's backside from behind the Toledo net to pick up his second goal of the season and give the Cyclones a 5-0 cushion. Unfortunately, Walleye forward Willie Coetzee wristed a shot past Foster with just 4:15 left in regulation to spoil a shutout bid. However, that didn't tarnish a tremendous debut for the Cyclones rookie netminder; he made 25 saves to earn his first ECHL win.

The defending Kelly Cup Champions will return to U.S. Bank Arena this Monday afternoon, February 21, when they welcome in the Kalamazoo Wings for a special 2:00pm opening face-off. It will be the 2011 Meijer Kids Club Game - kids who have signed up to be a member of the club will receive a FREE ticket to Monday's game. In addition, all fans will be able purchase $1 John Morrell hot dogs. 2010-11 single game and discounted group tickets are available now. 2011-12 season tickets go on sale to the general public on March 5.
