Charlotte Checkers News Release

CHARLOTTE, NC – The ECHL announced today that Mike Harder and Ryan Glenn will represent the Checkers at this year's ECHL All-Star Game in Reading, PA, on Wednesday, January 26, 2005. Harder and Glenn have had tremendous seasons to earn this honor.

Harder is the Checkers leading scorer with 10 goals and 20 assists for 30 points. He has the league's longest scoring streak after scoring a point in each of the Checkers first 12 games, and serves as the team's captain.

"I'm honored to represent both my city and my team," said Harder, an eight-year hockey veteran. "But it could've been so many guys on the squad. It makes it easier when you play with guys who give everything they've got every night on the ice." Harder continued, "It's a really big thing."

At his alma mater, Harder still holds the record as Colgate University's all-time leading scorer and he was a finalist for the Hobey Baker award. In 1998-99, Harder went on to be a top ten scorer in the American League, tallying 79 points in 79 games. He signed with the New York Rangers in 1999 and proceeded to lead the Hartford Wolf Pack in its successful quest for the Calder Cup. Last year, the Winnipeg native set a league record by scoring the winning goal in every series on the way to the DEL Championship.

Playing in his rookie season, Glenn is tied for the second highest number of points among Checkers defensemen with 10 assists and 2 goals, one of which was the game winner on the road against Mississippi. He is the Checkers highest scoring rookie defenseman and the second highest scoring rookie on the team.

"It's definitely an honor and I'm grateful for the opportunity," said Glenn. "Coach Wilkinson has really helped me a lot this year. And being on the ice with good guys, good friends, and such talented players, it's made me rise to a new level in my hockey career."

A native of Port Coquitlam, BC, Glenn was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in round 5 and went #145 overall in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. During the 1999-00 season with the Walpole Stars, he won the EJHL Defensemen of the Year award and earned first team all-star honors.
