Minard and Amadio ECHL All-Stars
January 5, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Columbia Inferno News Release
Columbia, SC, January 5, 2005 â The Columbia Inferno announces that goaltender Mike Minard and defenseman Greg Amadio each has been selected to represent the Inferno at the 2005 Coors Light ECHL All-Star game in Reading, Pennsylvania on January 26, 2005.
This is the first appearance in an ECHL All-Star game for both players. Under contract with the Manitoba Moose of the AHL, Minard who was selected by his peers, will be the starting goaltender for the American Conference. He is in his ninth professional season and is ranked third in wins (13-1-2 with two shutouts) and ninth in goals-against average with 2.24.
Coach Scott White said, "Mike has been amazingly consistent since the beginning of the season. With a young defensive corps in front of him, he has kept us in a lot of hockey games. His preparation and professionalism is very apparent and it rubs off on the rest of the players. It is a selection well deserved, and his teammates are happy for him."
Amadio, who is in his second professional season, leads ECHL defensemen in plus-minus rating with +19 and he has three points (0g-3a) in 25 games. He also made his debut appearance in his first AHL game with the Moose last week.
"It is not very often you get a defenseman with low offensive numbers selected to an All-Star team, but Greg has been a force defensively all season," said Coach White. "He punishes opponents in his defensive end, his plus/minus statistics (+19) speak for themselves, and his contribution on the penalty kill is outstanding."
Sponsored by Coors Light and hosted by the Reading Royals, the 13th Annual ECHL All-Star Game and Skills Competition will be held at the 7,215-seat Sovereign Center in Reading, Pa. The Skills Competition will be on January 25 at 7:05 p.m. and the All-Star Game will be played on January 26 at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are still available for all events and can be purchased at the Reading Royals box office or by telephone at (610) 898-7825.
