Fresno Falcons News Release

Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons battled out a tough win in a shootout against the Peoria Rviermen with a final score of 4-3 at Save Mart Center. Goals by Charles Simard and Dan Tessier in the shootout clinched the victory.

After a scoreless first period, the silence was finally broken half way through the second period when Tyler Rennette of Peoria broke away at the blue line and shot the puck past the right side of Fresno goaltender Jamie Hodson. The Falcons responded four minutes later with a power play goal by Charles Simard, but quickly fell behind again when Peoria's Rejean Stringer netted his seventh goal of the season at 15:20 of the second period.

The Falcons entered the third period down 2-1, but within less than 5 minutes, the Falcons took the lead with back-to-back goals by Paul Falco and Derek Krestanovich, respectively. But once again, the score was quickly tied up when Rennette scored his second goal of the night at 8:41 of the third period.

The score remained tied for the rest of the period, bringing the game into overtime. This is the second overtime between these two clubs during this season, with the Falcons losing to the Rivermen 4-3 in overtime on Dec. 29.

Both teams failed to score in overtime, bringing the game to a shootout. Falcons goaltender Jamie Hodson blocked four consecutive shots, while Charles Simard and Dan Tessier both beat Peoria goaltender Chris Beckford-Tseu, clinching the win with a final score of 4-3.

This win marks the Falcons' third in a row, and brings their overall record to 15-13-3. Their next game is Friday Jan. 7 against the San Diego Gulls at 7 p.m. at Save Mart Center, where special guests the Raiderettes will be performing during intermission.
