
Mallette and St. Pierre earn All-Star spots

GREENVILLE, SC â The Greenville Grrrowl of the ECHL, proud affiliates of the Chicago Blackhawks and Edmonton Oilers have announced that line-mates CARL MALLETTE (F) and MARTIN ST. PIERRE (F) have been selected to participate in the upcoming 2005 Coors Light ECHL All-Star Game. Mallette has earned a spot as a starter for the American Conference, while St. Pierre will participate in the 13th annual event.
CARL MALLETTE (6-1, 195lbs., forward) leads the ECHL in scoring with 38 points (18G, 20A) through 30 games with the Grrrowl. The Victoriaville, Quebec native, also leads the league in goals scored with 18. Mallette is in his second professional hockey season following a record-setting career in the QMJHL and time spent with Florida and Roanoke during the 2003-04 season. Mallette was selected in the 4th round (#107 overall) of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft by the Atlanta Thrashers, and was invited to the Edmonton Roadrunners AHL training camp prior to this season. Mallette spent three games with the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks earlier this season.
MARTIN ST. PIERRE (5-9, 185lbs., forward) is tied for third in the scoring race behind Mallette with 33 points (10G, 23 A). The Emburn, ONT native was signed as a free agent this past summer by the Edmonton Roadrunners (AHL) organization. St. Pierre is in his rookie professional season, after four stellar years, including 145 points in 90 total games, with the Guelph Storm (OHL) in 2003-04. He was selected as the MVP of the playoffs on the way to the OHL Championship last season.
Sponsored by Coors Light and hosted by the Reading Royals, the 13th Annual ECHL All-Star Game and Skills Competition will be held at the 7,215-seat Sovereign Center in Reading, Pa. The Skills Competition will be on January 25 at 7:05 p.m. and the All-Star Game will be played on January 26 at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are still available for all events and can be purchased at the Reading Royals box office or by telephone at (610) 898-7825.
The Grrrowl return to the BI-LO Center on Friday for a 7:05 p.m. game against Division-leading Pee Dee Pride. The Greenville Grrrowl will be collecting monetary donations at the next two home games, with the proceeds being given to Center Ice Charities. Center Ice will immediately forward the money on towards the American Red Cross International Response Fund to benefit Tsunami and Earthquake Victims in Southeast Asia.
