January 5, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
South Carolina Stingrays News Release
Princeton, NJ The ECHL announced today that Mark Ardelan and Joe Tenute will represent the Stingrays at this year's ECHL All-Star Game in Reading, PA, on January 26, 2005. Ardelan and Tenute, both rookies, have had tremendous seasons to earn this honor.
Ardelan an offensively gifted defenseman from Avonlea, Saskatchewan, currently leads all ECHL defenseman in goals with seven. Ardelan has 15 points on seven goals and eight assists in 29 games. Mark was assigned to the Stingrays before the season by the Portland Pirates, of the AHL. A year ago he was named to the first team all WHL, when he had 73 points on 19 goals and 54 assists in 72 games with Prince Albert.
"Mark has been a great asset to our team this season," commented Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons. "There is no doubt that he is offensively gifted, but he has also proved to be very solid defensively as well. I am sure he will represent us well in Reading."
Joe Tenute is currently second on the Stingrays in scoring with 29 points on 14 goals and 15 assists. The Hamilton, Ontario native is second among the league's rookies in goals and fourth on the rookie list in points. Tenute had his biggest season as a junior in 2002-03 with Sarnia, when he scored 41 goals and added 71 assists for 112 points. His fine play that year earned him an eighth round draft pick by the New Jersey Devils. He was signed as a free agent by the Stingrays in September of 2004.
"Joe has been everything that we thought he would be," noted Fitzsimmons. "He has one of the quickest releases that you will see combined with a very accurate shot, which makes for a dangerous combination."
The American Conference All-Stars will be coached by Dave Farrish of Pensacola and Jeff Pyle of the Gwinnett Gladiators.
South Carolina begins a three game home stand on Friday night when they host the Florida Everblades at 7:05. The team will play at the North Charleston Coliseum against the Pee Dee Pride on Saturday.
