Turple And Jackson Return To Gwinnett

The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that defenseman Jimmy Jackson and goaltender Dan Turple will rejoin the team after call-ups to the American Hockey League. Jackson was called up to the Manitoba Moose on February 8th while Turple has been in Grand Rapids since February 19th.

While in Manitoba, Jackson played in 7 games with the Moose and was held scoreless. Jackson stayed out of the penalty box and finished with a +2 plus/minus rating in his time in the AHL. He was even or better in all seven games.

Turple was available for the Griffins in four games and saw ice time in their 6-1 loss to the Quad City Flames on February 24. Turple played the third period of the loss and gave up one goal while making 6 saves.

Before being called up, Turple had a 12-9-3 record with a 3.14 goals against average and a 0.904 save percentage in 24 starts, on his way to a career year. Jackson, meanwhile, had notched 14 points on 10 goals and 4 assists in 26 games this season while battling an injury.

The stint with Grand Rapids was Turple's second visit to the AHL this season, but his first time playing in an AHL game. Jackson made his second trip to the AHL as he played in one game with the Grand Rapids Griffins last season.

Both players will be available for the Gladiators as they travel to Columbia to take on the Inferno tonight.

The Gladiators also announced that goaltender Nick Niedert has been released from his role as emergency back-up. Alos, defenseman Jon Sitko has been placed on the 7-day Injured Reserve and defenseman Jeff Mason has been placed on the 3-day IR.

The Gladiators continue their fifth anniversary season on Friday, February 29th as they travel to Columbia to take on the Inferno at 7:05 p.m. at the Carolina Coliseum. Catch all the play-by-play action in Friday's game on WDUN, News Talk 550.

Celebrating its 20th Anniversary as the Premier 'AA' Hockey League in 2007-08, the ECHL began in 1988-89 with five teams in three states and has grown to be a coast-to-coast league that has 25 teams in 17 states and British Columbia in 2007-08. The 25 teams includes the Mississippi (Biloxi) Sea Wolves, who return after missing two seasons in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and the expansion Elmira (N.Y.) Jackals. The ECHL will play 900 games beginning Oct. 18 and concluding Apr. 5.
