February 29, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Phoenix RoadRunners News Release
PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL, a proud affiliate of the San Jose Sharks and the Worcester Sharks, have announced that rookie defenseman Chris Murray has signed a professional try-out offer (PTO) with the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League.
Murray, 23, will play for his third AHL club this season. The Dover, Mass. native skated in one game with the Lake Erie Monsters on Jan. 23 at Hamilton and recorded a plus-one rating with two penalty minutes, and appeared in two games with the Springfield Falcons while registering a minus-two rating before being released Thursday.
Murray is fourth among RoadRunners defensemen in scoring with one goal and 14 points, and is tied for second on the club with 122 penalty minutes in 45 games.
Murray tallied a career-high nine goals, 22 points, and 84 penalty minutes in 39 games in 2006-07 at the University of New Hampshire to finish sixth overall among Hockey East defensemen in scoring. He was selected to the 2006-07 All-Hockey East Second Team, and was nominated for the 55th Walter Brown Award presented annually to the best American-born college hockey player in New England. Murray signed an amateur try-out agreement with the Peoria Rivermen of the American Hockey League at the conclusion of his senior season at New Hampshire, and made his professional debut with Peoria on March 31, 2007 at San Antonio.
Murray attended training camp this season with Worcester.
The RoadRunners will celebrate their past at 7:11 p.m. Friday at US Airways Center when they host "Turn Back the Clock Night" against the Alaska Aces. Scheduled to appear during a special second intermission ceremony are forwards Jeff Shevalier (1994-97), Mike Vukonich (1991-94), Shawn McCosh (1991-93), Ed Kastelic (1992-93), Brad McCaughey (1992-93), Bob Charlebois (1967-71), and Barry Potomski (1994-97), and defensemen Rob Cowie (1994-96), Darren Veitch (1995-96), Bobby Jay (1993-94), and Jim Niekamp (1974-78).
The club will also pay tribute to former RoadRunners' forward Tim Breslin who lost his battle with cancer and passed away on Feb. 9, 2005 at the age of 37. Breslin skated with the RoadRunners from 1991-94.
In addition to the festivities, the band "Stream" will perform live throughout the game.
The first 1,000 fans will receive a RoadRunners' rally towel presented by Dr. Michael Zacher, the "Official Team Dentist" of the Phoenix RoadRunners.
