Alaska Aces News Release

PHOENIX - Matt Robinson scored twice and Alaska never trailed in claiming its ninth straight victory, 4-2 over Phoenix on Friday in front of 4,477 at US Airways Center.

Phoenix fired 12 of the game's first 16 shots on goal but came away with nothing against Alaska starter Mike Brown, who finished the opening period with 15 saves, allowing his club to slowly work itself into the game. Brett Hemingway scored his fourth goal as an Ace (and 14th overall in this, his rookie season) on a rebound at 15:19, and the visitors took a 1-0 lead into the dressing room.

Robinson followed up on a rebound of a Corbin Schmidt shot just 2:24 into the second period, giving Alaska a 2-0 edge. Daniel Sisca whacked a rebound out of mid-air at 9:11 to bring the Roadrunners within 2-1. Vladimir Novak took a pass from Josh Soares and whistled home his second goal in as many nights to push the Aces lead back to two with 52 seconds left in the frame, but a turnover led to Sisca's second goal of the night only 13 seconds later, and Alaska had to settle for a 3-2 lead at the break.

Robinson turned in a terrific defensive play late in the third period, denying an odd man rush for Phoenix, helping Brown, who finished with 37 saves for the second consecutive night, preserve the victory. Fittingly, Robinson's empty-netter with 53 seconds left in regulation sealed Alaska's club record-tying sixth straight win on the road.

The Aces, now 30-19-5 overall and 14-2-1 lifetime against the Roadrunners, practices tomorrow in preparation for its series finale against Phoenix Sunday at 11:00 a.m. AT. Alaska returns home immediately after the game and play five games in six nights at Sullivan Arena, beginning Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. against Idaho, when all tickets in the balcony will be sold for five bucks (not including fees) when fans purchase those tickets at the team offices, located at 15th and Gambell. In addition to the reduced ticket prices, hot dogs and sodas will be sold at the game for one dollar each. All regular season games are broadcast live on AM 750 KFQD, with coverage beginning 15 minutes prior to face-off.
