Trenton Devils News Release

TRENTON, NJ (February 29, 2008) - The Trenton Devils announced today that defenseman Jay Pemberton was returned to Trenton by the Lowell Devils of the American Hockey League. The defensive standout returns to Trenton, strengthening the blue line corps for the stretch run.

Pemberton skated in five games with the "AAA" franchise on a Professional Try-Out, spending no time in the box and earning a -1 rating. While the defenseman did not net any points, he did help his squad keep opponents to an average of two goals per game in the contests in which he saw the ice.

During his time in central New Jersey, Pemberton served as a core member of the Devils' defensive scheme. Through 48 games this season in the ECHL, the Cumberland, RI native also had 12 points (3g, 9a).

The 6-4, 215-pounder is in his second year with the Trenton franchise, having skated in 55 games last season in the capital city. His combined numbers in the premiere "AA" league total to 24 points (5g, 19a) and 66 penalty minutes through 103 games.

Prior to playing professional hockey, Pemberton skated with Providence College in Hockey East. In addition to being named the team's best defenseman during his time there, the 24 year-old racked up 46 points (11g, 35a) and 112 minutes of penalties over the course of 135 contests.

Pemberton was the recipient of the "Best Pro Prospect Award" at Hockey Night in Boston before leaving for college. The defenseman was selected in the fourth round (#124 overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the Florida Panthers.

The Trenton Devils have seen a lot of player movement with their AHL affiliate; Pemberton is the ninth player to split his season between Trenton and the Lowell Devils. Netminders Dave Caruso and Jason Smith, forwards Trevor Kell, Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond, Benoit Mondou and Joe Rooney, and defensemen Sean Zimmerman and Zach Tarkir have also skated for both squads this season. Caruso, Letourneau-Leblond, Mondou, and Zimmerman remain with the AHL franchise.

The Trenton Devils take to the road to face the Wheeling Nailers March 1st at 8:00pm at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, WV. Full and partial season ticket plans for 2007-08 are available by calling (609) 599-9500.
