Falcons Drop 2-1 Decision to Cyclones
February 29, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fresno Falcons News Release
Fresno, Calif. - The Cincinnati Cyclones extended their ECHL-record winning streak to 17 games on Friday, defeating the Fresno Falcons 2-1 in front of 6,498 fans at Save Mart Center.
The Falcons scored the lone goal of the opening period at the 19:42 mark. Igor Gongalsky moved the puck to Joe Van Culin at the blue line, and he beat goaltender Maxime Daigneault with a wrist shot high to the glove side for his third goal of the year.
Cincinnati knotted the score 2:56 into the second period. David Desharnais picked up a loose puck behind the Fresno note, and fed Sean Perkins skating down the slot. Perkins one-timed a shot past Kris Mayotte tying the score at one, and extending Desharnais' ECHL record assist streak to 20 games.
Desharnais put the Cyclones on top 14:01 into the third period, stealing the puck at the Fresno blue line, and beating Mayotte with a wrist shot over the blocker pad for his 15th goal of the season.
That was enough for Daignealut, who improved to 6-1-0 on the season with 27 saves.
Fresno completes its three-game home stand on Sunday, hosting the Utah Grizzlies at 5:00 p.m. on Kids' Day, presented by Comcast Cable and Soft Rock 98.9. Tickets for all kids 14 and younger are just $7.
Tickets for all Falcons' home games can be purchased at the Save Mart Center Box Office, or through TicketMaster at (559) 485-TIXS or www.ticketmaster.com. All Falcons games air on 790 ESPN Radio, The Deuce, starting with the Port of Subs Pre-Game Show 15 minutes prior to face off.
