Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
(Allentown, Pa) - The IronRail Series made its return to Coca-Cola Park for the first time this season on Tuesday night. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (29-11) defeated Lehigh Valley (19-24) 14-5 as the RailRiders recorded 17 hits. Every RailRider reached base and scored a run.
Trey Amburgey hit a sacrifice fly against David Parkinson (0-4) in the top of the first inning and score Hoy Park and give the RailRiders a 1-0 lead. The RailRiders added three more runs against Parkinson in the top of the second inning to take a 4-0 lead. Andrew Velasquez hit a two-run home run that was followed by a double and RBI from Ryan LaMarre.
Armando Alvarez hit a home run against Parkinson in the top of the third inning to give Scranton/Wilkes-Barre a 5-0 lead. The home run for Alvarez was his third of the season. Parkinson left the game after four innings pitched.
The RailRiders scored another run in the top of the fifth inning against Brady Lail to take a 5-0 lead. Lehigh Valley finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth inning when Ryan Cordell hit a sacrifice fly against Luis Gil to score Scott Kingery. Derek Dietrich hit an RBI double against Lail to score LaMarre and give the RailRiders a 6-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre scored three more runs in the top of the seventh inning against Bryan Mitchell to take a 10-1 lead. The Pigs were able to get a run in the bottom of the eighth inning when Kingery hit a sacrifice fly against Trevor Lane to score Jake Elmore to cut the score to 10-2.
The RailRiders scored four runs against Jeff Singer in the top of the ninth inning to take a 14-2 lead.
The IronPigs scored three runs against Albert Abreu in the bottom of the ninth to cut the RailRiders lead to 14-5.
Mauricio Llovera pitched a scoreless 1 1/3 inning for the IronPigs. Darren O'Day and Justin Wilson each pitched scoreless innings in relief for the RailRiders as they made rehab appearances.
