Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp took an early 1-0 lead Tuesday but were unable to add on against the Durham Bulls in a 4-1 loss at 121 Financial Ballpark.
The Jumbo Shrimp (23-18) bullpen was excellent, allowing just one infield single as the only baserunner after the fourth. However, the Durham (29-13) bullpen was equally as impressive, giving up just five baserunners in the final five innings.
Jacksonville grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the second. Lorenzo Quintana led off the inning with a single, and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Brian Miller lined a single into left field to put the Jumbo Shrimp on the board first.
It was the only run Shane Baz (win, 1-0) allowed in five innings, striking out five.
Jordan Holloway (loss, 0-3) made his fourth rehab start for Jacksonville. He held the Bulls scoreless in the first two innings, but ran into trouble in the third. Tristan Gray led off the inning with a triple to center field, and scored one batter later on a Vidal Bruján RBI groundout to tie the score. With two outs in the frame, Josh Lowe reached on an infield single and Kevin Padlo plated him with a double to left-center to put Durham in the lead. Mike Ford capped the inning with a single through the right side to push the advantage to 3-1.
Then in the fourth, the Bulls tacked on a run. Esteban Quiroz led off with a single to right, and Tristan Gray scored him on an RBI single to right to increase the lead to 4-1. Holloway finished going 5.2 innings, allowing four runs on six hits. He walked two and struck out six, and retired the final seven hitters he faced.
Jake Fishman, Rob Zastryzny, and Jose Mesa Jr. combined to pitch the final 3.1 innings, allowing just one baserunner and striking out three.
The Jumbo Shrimp brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth with a pair of walks against Brent Honeywell Jr., but a groundout ended the contest. Honeywell Jr. earned his second save of the season.
Game two of the series gets underway Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. when Jacksonville sends lefty Shawn Morimando (1-2, 6.35) to the mound to face off with Bulls' right-hander Joe Ryan (2-2, 4.11).
Gates open at 6 p.m. for Military Appreciation Night presented by Ascension St. Vincent's, in which all active, retired, veterans and former military members and their dependents will receive a free field reserved or general admission ticket (subject to availability) at the box office.
