Durham Bulls News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Bulls starter Shane Baz earned his first Triple-A victory with five solid innings and four relievers combined for the final four scoreless frames, while Durham shortstop Tristan Gray clubbed two hits including an RBI single in a 4-1 victory over the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp on Tuesday evening at 121 Financial Ballpark.
Baz (5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K) earned the win with five strong frames in his second career Triple-A start, fanning five batters while yielding a lone run on three hits. The relief corps. of Phoenix Sanders (1.0 IP, 3 K), Ryan Sherriff (1.0 IP, K), Louis Head (1.0 IP, 2 H) and Brent Honeywell Jr. (1.0 IP, 2 BB) joined forces for the last four shutout innings of work, with Honeywell Jr. notching his second save. Jumbo Shrimp righty Jordan Holloway (5.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 4 K) suffered the defeat.
After Jacksonville plated a single tally in the second, Durham answered with a three-spot in the third, highlighted by 3B Kevin Padlo's RBI double and 1B Mike Ford's run-scoring single. Gray would then cap the scoring one frame later to extend the advantage to 4-1. Gray (2-4, R, 2B) was the only batter from either side to record a multi-hit effort.
The two teams are set to square off again on Wednesday evening, with first pitch set for 7:05pm ET. RHP Joe Ryan is expected to toe the rubber for the Bulls, while the Jumbo Shrimp are anticipated to send LHP Shawn Morimando to the hill.
The Bulls are scheduled to return to Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Tuesday, June 29 to start a six-game series with the Gwinnett Stripers. First pitch of that game is slated for 6:35pm ET. Tickets for that game and all remaining Bulls home games are now available at durhambulls.com.
