MOOSIC, Pa. - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders scored in seven of their nine trips to the plate and defeated the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 14-5 on Tuesday night at Coca-Cola Park. The victory ran the RailRiders winning streak to eight consecutive games.

Trey Amburgey kicked off the scoring in the top of the first with a sacrifice fly against David Parkinson to give the RailRiders a 1-0 lead. SWB tacked on three more in the second on a two-run homer by Andrew Velazquez and an RBI double from Ryan LaMarre.

In his second start with the RailRiders Luis Gil struggled with his control, walking a career-high seven batters. However, the right-hander persevered to allow only one run in 4-plus innings of work, striking out five and not allowing a hit.

The RailRiders kept adding to their advantage, getting a solo home run from Armando Alvarez in the third, an RBI groundout from Velazquez in the fifth, and a Derek Dietrich RBI double in the sixth. Dietrich had another stellar night at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two doubles, a run scored, an RBI and a walk.

Already leading 7-1, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre broke the game open in the top of the seventh, sending nine batters to the plate. Hoy Park delivered an RBI double, and Amburgey added a two-run single to run the score to 10-1.

With his base hit, Amburgey extended his on-base streak to 31 consecutive games, dating back to August 26, 2019. He trails Brandon Drury's franchise-record 32-game on-base streak in the 2018 season by one game. The outfielder was 1-for-4 with a sacrifice fly, a walk and three RBIs in the game.

The IronPigs added a run in the bottom of the eighth against Trevor Lane, but the RailRiders answered back by sending nine to the plate in the top of the ninth, scoring four runs to take a commanding 14-2 lead.

Lehigh Valley rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth against Albert Abreu, but he was able to finish off the win. The victory gives the RailRiders an 8-5 lead in the 2021 IronRail Series.
