Trenton Powers Past Toledo

January 6, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Toledo Walleye News Release

(Toledo, Ohio) The Toledo Storm (16-14-1) was defeated 3-1 by the Trenton Titans (15-11-2) in front of 4,371 at Toledo Sports Arena on Saturday night.

After skating to a scoreless tie through one period, the Titans grabbed a lead in the middle frame when Rosario Ruggeri blasted a shot past Dominic Vicari (L, 31 saves) at 16:59 to make it 1-0 Trenton.

In the third period, the Storm tied things up when Matt Zultek tipped home a pass from Mike James at 8:09 of the period (Jamie Tardif also assisting). For Zultek, it was his tenth goal of the season. However, Trenton would regain the advantage when Troy Riddle took a shot from the left circle that beat Vicari at 11:59, making it 2-1 Trenton.

In the final minute, the Storm was awarded a power play, and with an empty net, they had a two-man advantage. Unfortunately, the face-off was won by Jim Henkel and the puck trickled all the way back into the gaping net to put the Titans up 3-1.

The loss was just the fourth on home ice for the Storm all season long. For a consecutive night, Toledo out shot the visitors 39-34.

The Storm closes out the weekend series with a Sunday matinee meeting with the Cincinnati Cyclones at 3:05pm. Following the game, there will be another post-game skate and autograph session with Ken Magowan autograph cards to be distributed.
