Pensacola Ice Pilots News Release

PENSACOLA, FL - The Pensacola Ice Pilots saw their two-game winning streak at The Hangar come to an end on Saturday night to the Gwinnett Gladiators 6-4.

The Ice Pilots had won three of their last four games at home and were looking to continue their solid play, but a bad stretch early in the second period was the difference as Gwinnett scored three times to snap a 2-2 tie.

The Gladiators halted a two game losing streak on the road with the win and improved their record to 19-11-3-1 for 42 points, while the Ice Pilots slipped to 9-21-1-1 for 20 points.

There was a great crowd tonight at The Hangar that cheered loudly when the Ice Pilots scored and made great plays.

In the opening period, the Gladiators raced out to a 1-0 lead on a power play goal before the Ice Pilots pulled even when Dwayne Hay connected at the 8:15 mark from John Hecimovic and Nate Metcalf.

The Ice Pilots increased their advantage to 2-1 when David Wrigley scored on the power play from Greg Watson and Hecimovic. The Gladiators tied the game 2-2, 31 seconds later.

In the second period, the Gladiators scored three times, two on a four-minute power play and a third even strength to make it 5-2. The Ice Pilots mounted a charge a short time later when Mike Wirll notched his 21st from Nikita Korovkin and Travis Lisabeth and it was 5-3. But Gwinnett would add one late in the period to extend the lead back to three goals.

The Ice Pilots rounded out the scoring in the final 20 minutes when Dwayne Hay got his second from Nate Metcalf and David Wrigley.

Gwinnett was 3 for 5 on the power play, while Pensacola was 2 for 7. The Ice Pilots out-shot Gwinnett 39-33.

Notes: The Pensacola Ice Pilots return to action on Thursday night when they meet the Gwinnett Gladiators again, this time in Georgia, at 6:05 pm central, 7:05 pm eastern. It's the first of a four game road trip that continues on with stops in Charlotte, Augusta, and Columbia prior to the all-star break.

The Ice Pilots return to The Hangar on Friday, January 19 when they host the Texas Wildcatters at 7:05 pm. Superfan will be in attendance to dance for the fans and handout tee-shirts.
