Bakersfield Condors News Release

Las Vegas, Nevada - The Bakersfield Condors scored three goals in the first period and held on to beat the Las Vegas Wranglers, 3-2, in front of 5,665 at the Orleans Arena.

It was déjà vu for the Condors (17-10-3, 37 points), as they came flying out of the locker room just like they did on December 18th in Las Vegas. Brett Lutes opened the scoring, tipping a Tyler Scott shot past Kevin Nastiuk at 8:14 for a 1-0 lead.

Mike Hofstrand made it 2-0 at 13:52, ramming home a rebound off another Scott blast. It was a power-play goal, marking the 19th consecutive game the Condors have connected with the man-advantage.

Andrew Ianiero finished the rally, tipping in a Scott Balan shot for his 8th goal of the year, making it 3-0 at 18:34.

But Las Vegas (17-6-7, 41 points) fought back late in the second period, scoring twice in a span of 83 seconds. Marco Peluso got the Wranglers on the board off a setup by Steve Crampton at 15:46 to make it 3-1, and then Kelly Czuy made it a 3-2 game at 17:09 as he beat Jamie Hodson on a shot to the far post.

Midway through the final period, the Condors killed off a two-man advantage to preserve the lead, and Hodson never let another puck pass as he notched his 13th win of the season.

Notes: Lutes' goal was his 16th and ties him with Todd Griffith for the team lead. Bakersfield is now 15-5-0 when scoring the first goal of the game, 6-0-0 on the road when leading after the first period and 5-1-0 on the road when leading after two periods of play.

John Doolan was selected as equipment manager for the 2007 Rbk Hockey ECHL All-Star Game on Jan. 17th at Qwest Arena in Boise, Idaho, but declined due to scheduling conflicts.
