Nailers Fall in Dayton

January 6, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wheeling Nailers News Release

The Wheeling Nailers fell on the road to the Dayton Bombers 3-1 Saturday night at the Nutter Center. The Nailers were held to a season-low 17 shots by the Bombers, who have allowed the least amount of goals this season in the ECHL.

Dayton scored first halfway through the first period on Mike Berry's first of two goals in the game. It came just as a 5-on-3 advantage expired for the Bombers.

Eric Sonnenberg converted his second goal of the season in the closing minutes of the first period to tie the game at one. Vin Hellemeyer and Richard Colwill were credited with assists.

The game winner was scored by Berry from behind the net of all places. His centering pass redirected off a Nailers skate in front and through the legs of Andy Franck.

The Bombers limited Wheeling to just three shots on net in the middle period. Dayton added an insurance goal in the third off the stick of Justin Maiser.

Franck stopped 27 shots in the losing effort while making his eleventh consecutive start. The Nailers were 0 for 5 on the power play while the Bombers scored just the single goal on six chances.

Wheeling returns home on Sunday for a 6pm start against the Reading Royals at WesBanco Arena. Call 877-NAILTIX for ticketing information or log onto www.wheelingnailers.com.
