Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Fresno, CA - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Manitoba Moose and the Vancouver Canucks, landed in Fresno for game one of the three-game weekend in California to try and clip the soaring Falcons. Victoria tied the game in the third period, but Fresno snatched a three-goal run for the 4-1 victory.

John Morlang earned his 15th goal of the season, scoring on the first shot of the game. Morlang carried the puck across the Victoria blueline and wired a shot from the top of the right circle, going shortside on rookie Goaltender Bryan Bridges for the Fresno 1-0 lead at 1:45 into the first.

The second stanza was scoreless as each team was locked at 19 shots after two periods.

The Salmon Kings tied the game 1-1 on a 5-on-3 powerplay. Just 36 seconds into the final frame, Defenseman Steve Lingren started the play feeding to Wes Goldie along the left boards. Goldie stepped into the circle and passed to Mike Stutzel perched on the right post, and Stutzel tapped the puck in for his ninth goal of the season.

Fresno scored three straight goals to secure the victory. At 2:47 into the period, Brady Leisenring tipped a point shot by Dustin VanBallegooie for the 2-1 lead, and Rob McFeeters gave the Falcons the 3-1 advantage with a powerplay marker at 10:23 into the period.

A little over one minute later, Fresno Forward Dave Borrelli scored his third goal of the season, skating up the right wing and backhanding a shot to the farside corner on Bridges.

Final: 4-1 Falcons

MacDonald earned his tenth win of the season and secured the Falcons eighth straight win, and Bridges suffered his seventh loss.
