Fresno Falcons News Release
Long Beach, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons eight-game winning streak came to an end on Saturday as they fell to the Long Beach Ice Dogs 3-2 in overtime in front of 1,618 fans at Long Beach Arena.
Fresno got off to a quick start, getting a power-play from Rob McFeeters 5:11 into the opening period to take a 1-0 lead. McFeeters gathered in a loose puck at the top of the crease, and flipped the puck just over the reach of Ice Dogs goaltender Mike Brown for his ninth goal of the season. Luke Curtin recorded an assist on the goal, extending his scoring streak to 11 games.
Long Beach pulled even at 11:44 of the period. Brandon Schwartz sent the puck in front from the corner, and Bo Cheesman stationed on the far post one-timed the puck past Ryan MacDonald for his sixth goal of the year.
The Ice Dogs took the lead 8:55 into the second period. Mark Tobin got free skating down the slot and took a quick shot that was turned aside by MacDonald, but the rebound sat free, and was pushed home by Jeff Mason who picked up his sixth goal of the season.
John Wroblewski pulled the Falcons even with his seventh goal of the season at 5:08 of the third period as he took a pass from John Morlang in the right-wing circle and blasted a one-timer past Brown.
In the extra session, Ash Goldie took a centering feed from Brad Bonnello and redirected a shot past MacDonald just 39 seconds in to give Long Beach the win.
The Falcons are back home on Sunday, hosting the Victoria Salmon Kings at 5:00 p.m. All kids 14 and under can purchase tickets for half price on another Comcast Cable/Pump It Up Kids Day. Sunday also features a special "Birthday Tribute to the King." In Celebration of the birth date of Elvis Presley (January 8, 1935), the Falcons welcome Jeremy "Elvis" Pearce for a pre-game Elvis Show starting at 4:15 p.m. on the concourse. There will also be a first intermission Elvis Performance at center ice with 20 lucky lady Falcons fans getting the chance to take a seat on the ice and be serenaded by the "King."
