Trenton Devils News Release
TOLEDO, OH - The Trenton Titans went 2-for-7 on the man-advantage and got 38 saves from Joel Martin to record a 3-1 win against the Toledo Storm at the Toledo Sports Arena.
A hard-fought battle, the first goal of the game would not be registered until 16:59 of the second period as the Titans used the power play to get the on the board. Les Haggett found Rosario Ruggeri alone on the top circle and the defenseman beat Dominic Vicari clean with a slapshot for his third goal of the season.
Toledo would answer back at 8:09 of the third frame when Matt Zultek's power play goal knotted the score 1-1 and foiled Martin's shutout bid.
The Titans gained the lead once again as they went back on the man-advantage for the seventh time in the match. This time it was Scott Bertoli centering for Troy Riddle who chipped in his tenth of the year with 8:01 left in regulation.
With the Storm picking up another power play late in the game, Jim Henkel put the nail in the coffin sending his face-off win down the ice for an empty-net, shorthanded tally.
Martin stopped all but one of 39 Toledo shots to raise his record to 8-8-0. Trenton finished 4-fo-5 on the penalty kill.
The Titans complete the weekend on Sunday, January 7 with 5:00pm matinee against the Dayton Bombers. Listen to all of the Titans action live via B2 Networks at www.trentontitans.com
