Florida Everblades News Release

ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (22-10-0) pulled off their third come-from-behind win when trailing heading into the third period by erasing a 3-1 Charlotte Checkers (17-14-2) lead to earn a 4-3 overtime victory Saturday night at Germain Arena in front of a crowd of 6,066.

Reggie Berg tallied his team-leading 17th goal of the season just 1:04 into overtime after a great give-and-go with Brad Zancanaro to cap off a huge come-from-behind effort that sent to crowd into delirium as the Everblades earned their third straight home victory.

The overtime period was made necessary after the Everblades scored twice in a nine-second period in the late stages of the third period. After Daymen Rycroft scored at 8:04 of the final period to give Charlotte a 3-1 lead, the Everblades cut the lead to one after Charlotte forward Zdenek Bahensky inadvertently scored into his own net at 13:32. Adam Taylor got credit for the goal with David Brine and Ryan Brindley picking up the assists. Just nine seconds later rookie defenseman Bret Nasby unleashed a slap shot from the top of the right circle that beat Charlotte goaltender Alex Westlund to tie the game at three.

The Everblades began the game strong, tallying the game's first goal just 3:07 into the contest. Ryan Van Buskirk fired a shot from the high slot while the Everblades enjoyed a 5-on-3 power play. Brindley and Berg assisted on Van Buskirk's first goal of the season. The Checkers answered at 8:16 of the first period when Hugh Jessiman slipped a shot between Everblades goaltender Craig Kowalski's pads to tie the game at one. The Checkers notched the lone second period goal just 38 seconds into the frame, just as a power play came to an end. Bryan Rodney's shot from the right point deflected and bounced up over the shoulder of Kowalski to give Charlotte a 2-1 lead.

Kowalski earned his eighth win in his ninth games by stopping 32 of 35 shots, raising his overall record to 13-6-0. Westlund got credit for a tie after allowing four goals on 32 shots, which brought his record to 7-4-1.

On the power play, the Everblades finished 1-for-11, while the Checkers closed out the night 0-for-9.
