Augusta Scores Four First Period Goals To Cruise To Victory Over Johnstown

Johnstown, PA - The Augusta Lynx defeated the Chiefs by a score of 7-2 on Saturday night at James Brown Arena in Augusta, Ga.

The Lynx wasted no time getting on the board, as Mike Erickson beat Chiefs goaltender Gerald Coleman with a backhander through a screen to give Augusta a 1-0 lead at 3:06 of the first period. Just five-and-a-half minutes later, Shane Hynes beat Coleman with a wrist shot through traffic with Augusta on the power-play to put the Lynx up 2-0. Louis Goulet would make it 3-0 for Augusta with a power-play goal scored on a wrist shot from the top of the slot at 14:42. Brian Passmore scored the fourth goal for Augusta, firing a shot from the point that bounced past Coleman at 16:11.

Eric Przepiorka got the Chiefs on the board early in the second period, scoring on a wrist shot from the top of slot at 5:40 of the second period. Dirk Southern made it 5-1 with a one-timer that beat Coleman through the legs. Jean Desrochers would score the Chiefs second goal of the game, making a nifty move from behind the net to get Augusta goaltender David McKee down to the ice and then shooting the puck high at the 16:42 mark.

Augusta would add two more goal, with Ken Scuderi scoring at 17:22 of the second and Dirk Southern scoring on an empty net at 7:22 of the third period.

Gerald Coleman made 16 saves on 21 shots and took the loss, while Morgan Cey made 14 saves on sixteen shots, entering the game at the 13:47 mark of the second period in relief of Coleman.

The next Chiefs home game is Monday, January 15, at 1:00 p.m. against the Wheeling Nailers when the kids have off for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
