Last Week

The Toronto Marlies had a busy weekend, playing three games in three days, their first of four in the month of December. First up was a visit to Hamilton for a match against the Bulldogs. Toronto would play a solid game in front of goaltender Antoine Bibeau who would make 25 saves to ensure a 3-1 victory for the Marlies. Brandon Kozun scored the game winner, while playing in his last game as part of a conditioning stint from the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Marlies would head back home Saturday for a rematch against the Bulldogs in Ricoh Coliseum. Toronto would be unable to shutout Hamilton who would escape with a 4-2 victory. This pushed the season series between the two teams to 2-3-1-0. Toronto capped the weekend on home ice, welcoming the Rochester Americans to Ricoh. Toronto would come out determined to protect home ice and would do so in front of a season high 6,914 fans. With goals from Brendan Mikkelson, Josh Leivo and Matt Frattin, the Marlies would shut out the Americans 3-0. Antoine Bibeau earned his second win of the weekend with the 25 save effort. With the win Toronto evened the season series with the Americans 2- 2-0-0. Connor Brown collected three points on the weekend adding to his team leading 17 points.

Drafted 100th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2011, Nilsson has developed into a steady defenceman for the Marlies. In his first season with Toronto, Tom has 3 points while playing in all 23 games this season. Along with responsible defensive play, Nilsson brings a physical style of play to the ice.

Look Ahead

Toronto has another full weekend of games. First is a visit to Utica where they take on the Comets, affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks Friday night. Toronto then returns home for two games against the St. John's Ice Caps. Sunday is also Toronto's annual Teddy Bear Toss game. After the first Toronto goal is scored, fans are encouraged to toss stuffed animals on the ice for donation to local charities.
