NORFOLK, Va. - The AHL's hottest team, the Springfield Falcons, tripled up the Admirals as goaltender Anton Forsberg stonewalled Emerson Etem's late penalty shot attempt to clinch a 3-1 win Friday night at Scope Arena.

The Admirals allowed the first goal for the 19th time this season when Marko Dano slipped a rebound behind Bryzgalov to give Springfield the 1-0 lead 13:59 into the first period. Austin Madaisky and Alexander Wennberg drew the assists on the game opening goal.

Max Friberg answered for Norfolk as he redirected a shot past Forsberg. The tally came at the 16:37 mark of the opening frame on helpers from Jared Nightingale and Nic Kerdiles, and sent toys flying down onto the ice for the Admirals' annual Toy Toss.

Norfolk successfully killed off a 5-on-3 power play early in the second frame, but the Falcons eventually broke through. Dano recorded his second goal of the night off an Admirals giveaway in front of the net to give the Falcons the lead again. He potted the unassisted marker at 10:55 of the second period to make the score 2-1. The Falcons would take that lead and a considerable edge in shots, 27-14, into the locker room.

With the game within one, the Admirals were awarded a penalty shot after Falcons defenseman Cody Goloubef intentionally dislodged the net in a frantic final minute. Head Coach Jarrod Skalde chose Etem to take the shot, but his deke failed to beat Forsberg on the backhand with only 20 seconds remaining. Sean Collins tapped in an empty netter at the 19:58 mark as Springfield went on to win the game by a 3-1 score.

Forsberg stopped 26 of 27 shots, while Bryzgalov turned aside 32 of 34.

The Falcons went 1-for-3 with the man-advantage, while the Admirals went 0-for-2 on the power play.

The Admirals host the Falcons once again tomorrow night at the Scope; face-off is set for 7:15 p.m.
