Manchester Monarchs News Release
PORTLAND, ME - Josh Gratton's first goal of the season proved the game-winner as the Monarchs scored three unanswered in a 3-1 victory over the Pirates on Friday night at the Cross Insurance Arena.
Gratton tipped home a shot from Colin Miller midway through the third to give Manchester a 2-1 lead. Gratton also assisted on Zach O'Brien's goal in the third period for his first multi-point game of the year.
Manchester surrendered the game's first goal at 18:43 in the first period when Dylan Reese struck on the power play. Jeff Schultz was called for interference at 18:35 to set up the man advantage.
The teams went to the locker rooms after that goal due to the Pirates' Teddy Bear Toss that caused a delay in the action.
Nick Shore tallied his team-leading 13th goal of the season at 8:14 in the second period to tie the score at 1-1. The goal came on the power play after Manchester was held scoreless in its first three power-play chances.
The Monarchs took a 2-1 lead 7:28 in the third period thanks to Gratton. It was his first goal in the AHL since the 2008-09 season with Philadelphia.
Zach O'Brien scored on a one-timer off a feed from Gratton at 14:31 in the third period to make it 3-1. The goal extended O'Brien's streak to four straight games with a goal beginning on Dec. 5.
The Monarchs will finish out the weekend with road games tomorrow in Worcester (7 p.m.) and Sunday in Providence (3:05 p.m.). The team returns to the Verizon Wireless Arena on Dec. 19 with a 7 p.m. matchup against the Sharks.
Notes:
Nick Shore has registered at least one point in each of his last four games (3 goals, 2 assists). Colin Miller had two assists tonight and now has 12 assists in 23 games this season, matching his total from all of last year (65 games). Zach O'Brien has four goals and two assists in his last four games beginning on Dec. 5. J.F. Berube made 24 saves on 25 shots for his 12th win of the season. He has not lost since Nov. 29 at Springfield.
