Toledo Mud Hens News Release
GAME RECAP: Coming into today's game, the Toledo Mud Hens were looking for their third straight victory over the Worcester Red Sox. RHP Nivaldo Rodriguez took the mound, hoping to improve Toledo to a 13-14 record.
The Woo Sox began hitting the ball hard off Rodriguez, and tallied three runs in the third inning, drawing first blood. This would be the only offense, for the first half of the ballgame. The Mud Hens were hitless in six total innings of offense. However, the Toledo bullpen kept the Mud Hens in the game, by not allowing any runs since the third inning. RHP Bryan Garcia went 2.2 innings, after relieving Rodriguez, only allowing three hits. From there, RHP Angel DeJesus struck out a batter with the bases loaded to end the sixth inning, when relieving Garcia.
In the seventh inning, it was a whole new ballgame. Ryan Lavarnway would be walked in four pitches. Jacob Robson would also walk, moving Lavarnway to second. Then, the Mud Hens got their first hit of the ballgame. Dane Myers would hit a double to shallow right field, scoring Lavarnway. This made it a 3-1 ballgame, in favor of Worcester. The second baseman, John Valente would hit a single to right, to bring around Robson and Myers, tying the game at three apiece. Valente now has a total of four RBIs this season, and Myers obtained his first in the International League, with his clutch double.
In the next inning, the Mud Hens kept the bats alive. Kody Clemens obtained his fourth triple of the season, leading off the bottom half of the eighth. Daz Cameron singled on a ground ball to score Clemens, and Toledo led 4-3. The Hens would get an insurance run, as Ryan Lavarnway would hit an RBI single, scoring Cameron. Cameron and Lavarnway both have a total of eight RBIs this season. "His (Lavarnway) veteran presence shows for our organization. He is a leader, and always comes up big." Manager Lloyd McClendon said.
The Mud Hens won the ballgame with a score of 5-3. RHP Miguel Diaz obtained his first win of the season, after tallying a strong seventh and eighth inning of work. LHP Miguel Del Pozo would snag his second save, retiring the Worcester side in order. "The lady luck shined on us today, no doubt." Manager Lloyd McClendon said.
NOTABLE BATTER: Daz Cameron has extended his hitting streak to eight games.
NEXT UP: The Mud Hens will look to close the series with Worcester, after clinching a series victory today. The first pitch will be at 2:05.
