Brampton Beast News Release

TOLEDO, OHIO - The Brampton Beast threw everything they had at Toledo Walleye starting goaltender Jake Paterson but the keeper stopped all 28 shots he faced as the Walleye topped the Beast 4-0 at the Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio on Friday night.

Evan Rankin led the way for Toledo with a pair of goals and an assist, while Beau Schmitz and Joel Chouinard each added singles for the Walleye, who snapped the Beast's two-game winning streak.

The Beast outshot the Walleye 12-8 in the opening frame but Toledo was the first to find the back of the net. Rankin's first of the night opened the scoring at 9:22 of the opening frame as he redirected a point shot behind Beast goaltender Jordan Ruby.

Schmitz gave the Walleye a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission as he chipped a rebound over a sprawling Ruby at 11:56.

Chouinard pushed the lead to 3-0 at the 10:03 mark of the second period as his shot hit a Beast stick in front of Ruby and tumbled into the back of the net for a power play goal.

Rankin notched his second of the night with just under two minutes left in the period as he entered the offensive zone with speed down the right wing side and placed a perfect shot into the top corner at 18:02. That goal spelled the end of Jordan Ruby's night as he was pulled from the game after 40 minutes, allowing four goals on 21 shots.

Drew Fielding made his Beast debut between the pipes as he entered the game to start the third period. He registered a perfect period and kicked out all eight shots he faced. The Beast offense threw another 10 shots on Walleye goaltender Paterson but he stopped him all to complete the 28-save shutout.

Notes: The Beast finished the game 0-for-5 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill. Molson Three Stars: 3) Jake Paterson 2) Joel Chouinard 1) Evan Rankin.

The Beast have now concluded their lengthy seven-game road trip. The Beast are back in action on Sunday, January 31 at the Powerade Centre as they host the Wheeling Nailers for the club's annual Star Wars game. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:00 PM. Single game tickets are now available, starting at $16.25.
