January 29, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Evansville IceMen News Release
BACK TO THE FAIRGROUNDS
The IceMen wrap up a six-game road trip with two big games against their Midwest Division rivals, the Indy Fuel this weekend in Indianapolis. Evansville is nine points behind Indy in the division and seven points out of a Western Conference playoff spot with 32 games left in the season. Last time the IceMen played up at Indiana Farmers Coliseum, the Fuel won both games January 8-9 to widen the gap between the two teams in the standings.
WE'RE NOT IN KANSAS ANYMORE
After starting the longest road trip of the season 2-0 with wins at Greenville and Atlanta, Evansville hit a speed bump in Missouri and Kansas. The IceMen led three times Tuesday in Independence, MO against the Missouri Mavericks, who hold the league's best record, but eventually fell 6-5 in overtime. The next night, Wichita jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period on its way to a 4-2 win over the IceMen.
DANNY'S SONG
Forward Danny Hobbs has been quite a spark for Evansville's offense since his return January 8. Hobbs, who scored five goals in 17 games last year for the IceMen, already has six goals in nine games this season. The Shawville, QC native scored three goals and added two assists in the first four games of the current road trip.
ROOKIES ON A ROLL
Two IceMen rookies who have been playing like veterans as of late are Chris Rumble and Vincent Dunn. After missing four games with a concussion, Rumble has four goals and three assists with a plus-4 rating in the past five games, including his first career hat trick January 22 at Greenville. Dunn is making a statement that he is more than just a talented fighter. The 20-year-old forward is currently on a career-best four game point streak, where he has totaled three goals and three assists with a plus-3 rating in that span.
FUELING THE OFFENSE
In order to have success against Indy this weekend, the IceMen will have to find a way to solve the Fuel's goalies and talented group of defensemen. Evansville managed only ten total goals in the first seven meetings between the two Hoosier State rivals, including two 3-0 shutout losses November 4 and January 9. Fuel goaltender Shane Owen posted a 32-save shutout the last time the IceMen were in Indianapolis, and Mac Carruth is 4-1 against Evansville this year. Luckily for the IceMen, the latter of the two is currently up with the AHL's Rockford IceHogs.
