January 29, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Evansville IceMen News Release
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Indy Fuel jumped out to a 6-0 lead on their way to a 7-3 victory Friday over the Evansville IceMen at Indiana Farmers Coliseum in the first of two games this weekend between the two teams.
The Fuel scored four times in the first period to lead 4-0 at the first intermission. Daniel Ciampini tipped a Zach Miskovic shot through a screen past IceMen goalie Cody Reichard 1:27 into the game. Michael Colantone made it 2-0 at the end of a Fuel power play. Then Peter Schneider scored twice in the final two minutes of the frame, giving the IceMen their biggest first period deficit of the season.
Indy scored twice more in the second period against Evansville's backup goaltender Christoffer Bengtsberg to extend its lead to 6-0 after two. The Fuel outshot the IceMen 27-15 through two periods and received goals from Ciampini and Adam Lepsansky in the stanza.
Evansville scored three consecutive goals in the third period to cut the Fuel lead in half. First, Michael Trebish tipped in a shot on the power play for his first IceMen goal. Tyson Fawcett then rang a wrist shot off the post and in to make it 6-2. Lastly, Alex Wideman beat Fuel goaltender Shane Owen on the short side on a shot from the left circle. Indy would add a power play goal late, when Zack Miskovic fired a shot from the point that deflected in off of Bengtsberg's glove.
The two teams face-off again Saturday at Indiana Farmers Coliseum at 7:35pm. It will be the ninth of twelve meetings between the two teams. The IceMen and Fuel then have two more matchups in March, a home-and-home series March 11-12.
Evansville returns home February 6 to take on the Rapid City Rush at 7:15pm. It's "Capes and Crowns Night" at the Ford Center, as fans are encouraged to dress up as their favorite superheroes or princes/princesses.
