Gladiators Fall to Steelheads 4-1
January 29, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
After a scoreless first period, the Idaho Steelheads broke the deadlock midway through the second period on a 2-on-1 chance. Idaho forward, Andre Bouvet-Morrissette, passed to Joe Basaraba from the right circle after drawing the last Gladiator defender. The former University of Minnesota-Duluth captain tucked the puck into the net to give the Steelheads the 1-0 advantage. Basaraba notched his second goal of the season while Bouvet-Morrissette picked up his ninth assist of the year on the play.
The Steelheads added another goal in the second period with just under one second left in the frame. Rob Linsmayer took a slap shot from the high slot that powered through Gladiators goaltender, Matt Ginn, giving Idaho a two-goal lead right before the horn. Shawn Boutin and Jefferson Dahl were both credited with assists on the forward's 12th goal of the season.
Idaho scored their third unanswered goal off the stick of Branden Troock 2:44 into the third period. The Edmonton, Alberta native received a pass from Dahl from the right point and wristed the puck past a sprawling Ginn and into the open net. Dahl recorded his second assist of the game on Troock's second goal of the season.
The Steelheads increased their lead to four on a shot from Tommy Fallen. Kyle Jean and Basaraba combined to find the open forward who fired a quick shot from the slot past Ginn. Basaraba tallied his second point of the game on the secondary helper while Jean notched his fifth assist of the year on Fallen's third goal of the season.
Ian Barteaux notched the Gladiator's only goal at the 15:47 mark of the third period. Brock Higgs passed to the second year pro at the left point who capitalized on a 3-on-1 opportunity to improve the score to 4-1 in favor of the Steelheads. Higgs picked up his 12th helper on the primary assist to Barteaux's second goal of the year. Tyler Murovich was credited with his 26th point on the secondary assist.
The Atlanta Gladiators were unable to mount a comeback and fell to 25-16-2-0 and stay at 52 points on the year. The Idaho Steelheads improve to 21-18-4-1 and 47 points on the season.
