TUESDAY NIGHT: The TinCaps suffered an 8-7, 11-inning loss in the opener of their 3-game series against the South Bend Cubs. With two outs in the bottom of the 11th, South Bend center fielder Chris Singleton had a walk-off hit. In the loss, 5 TinCaps had 2-hit games (Jeisson Rosario, Tirso Ornleas, Luis Campusano, Justin Lopez, and Jalen Washington).
ALL-STARS: On Wednesday, 4 TinCaps were announced as Midwest League All-Stars (C Luis Campusano, LHP Aaron Leasher, LHP Nick Margevicius, and LHP Travis Radke). Campusano is slashing .297/.359/.291 in 38 games this season with 4 doubles, 3 home runs, and 22 RBIs. Leasher holds a 3.08 ERA in 11 appearances (9 starts) with 54 strikeouts in 52.2 IP. Margevicius has a 2.65 ERA in 9 starts with a team-high 65 strikeouts and only 9 walks in 51.0 IP. Radke boasts a 1.97 ERA in 18 relief appearances with 50 strikeouts to just 6 walks in 32.0 IP.
GO IRISH: On Monday, the TinCaps spent the off-day in South Bend touring the University of Notre Dame. Players and staff had the chance to see the recently renovated Notre Dame Stadium, as well as iconic spots on campus like Touchdown Jesus (Hesburgh Library), the Golden Dome (Main Building), the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, and the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes. The team also had a luncheon on campus, meeting ND Head Baseball Coach Mik Aoki, and learning about the university's history in a bi-lingual presentation that focused on the role of immigrants in shaping the school.
DRAFT DAY: The MLB Draft started on Monday night. Fort Wayne's parent club, the Padres, had the 7th overall pick and selected LHP Ryan Weathers out of Loretto HS in Tennessee. With the 38th pick, San Diego took SS Xavier Edwards from North Broward Prep HS in Florida. At pack 74, they took OF Grant Little out of Texas Tech. After Rounds 3-10 on Tuesday, it wraps up Wednesday with Rounds 11-40.
BURGEONING BULLPEN: TinCaps relievers have posted a 3.27 ERA over their last 37 games. In this time, the 'pen has been led by Travis Radke, Caleb Boushley, Evan Miller, Jordan Guerrero, and Ben Sheckler. Through the first 19 games of the year, the bullpen had a 7.47 ERA.
FEELING EXTRA: The TinCaps have 35 extra-base hits over their last 11 games. Fort Wayne matched a season high with 7 extra-base hits on May 24 @ West Michigan and again on May 26 @ Lansing. (The team also tallied 7 XBHs on April 13 @ Bowling Green.) Over their last 11, the 'Caps have hit 8 triples, 21 doubles, and 6 home runs.
