Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
BOWLING GREEN, KY - The Bowling Green Hot Rods fell for the second straight night against Lansing, this time by a score of 2-0. The Hot Rods got runners to third twice, but couldn't bring anyone home as the Lugnuts were able to complete their fourth shutout of the season.
It was purely a pitchers dual through the first five innings, as neither team was able to scratch across a run until the top of the sixth. C Matt Morgan hit a leadoff single to start the sixth, and scored on another single from RF Chavez Young.
The run was the only run that LHP Josh Fleming allowed for the Hot Rods, as he pitched seven innings in the start and allowed five hits, just the one run, and struck out four. RHP Colton Laws practically matched Fleming pitch for pitch for Lansing, and he threw five innings and allowed just three hits and struck out three.
Bowling Green came close to scoring a couple times in the game, CF Carl Chester doubled in the second inning and advanced to third on a groundout, but was stranded there as Laws picked up a strikeout to end the frame and strand Chester on the base paths.
RHP Kyle Weatherly was the first pitcher out of the pen for the Lugnuts and he threw two innings and only allowed one hit and picked up two strikeouts.
In the bottom of the seventh inning the Hot Rods once again got Chester to third base after he was hit by a pitch. He stole second and advanced to third on a groundout, but was stranded there once again as the Lugnuts got a groundout to end the inning.
RHP Jose Disla pitched the final two innings of the game. He allowed one run in the eighth inning when LF Norberto Obeso drove in CF Reggie Pruitt with an RBI single to make the game 2-0 and give the Lugnuts and insurance run.
RHP Claudio Custodio pitched the final two innings of the game and picked up his first save of the season. He only allowed two hits and recorded a strikeout. Neither team had a walk the entire game.
The Hot Rods look to avoid being swept for the first time since their second series of the season. RHP Alex Valverde (3-2, 4.06) gets the start for Bowling Green and he'll be opposed by RHP Turner Larkins (4-4, 3.72) for Lansing. First pitch is set for 6:35pm tomorrow.
