Great Lakes Loons News Release
MIDLAND, Mich. - The West Michigan Whitecaps are now 9-0 against the Great Lakes Loons in 2018 after a 7-1 win on Wednesday night at Fifth Third Field.
After being shut-out in game one, the Loons offense was held to just one run on six hits in game two. The lone run for Great Lakes came in the 5th inning on an RBI-double by Moises Perez. But, in the bottom of the 5th, West Michigan responded by hitting for the cycle as a team and plated five runs against Loons starter Jose Chacin.
Chacin (L, 3-3) allowed just three baserunners through the first four frames before being pushed out of the game in the 5th.
Jose Azocar had the biggest blow of the game when he took Chacin deep the opposite way to right-center field. It was the first homerun of the year for the Tigers outfield prospect.
Jesus Rodriguez started the game for West Michigan and ceded just one run in six innings. Rodriguez (W, 0-3) struck out six and walked none before handing things off to Brandyn Sittinger who threw three scoreless innings on his 24th birthday en route to his first save with West Michigan.
The Loons are still in search of their first win against West Michigan this season. The series finale against the Whitecaps is scheduled for Thursday at 7:05 p.m. ET. LHP Leo Crawford (0-1, 2.52 ERA) starts for the Great Lakes and faces off against RHP Brad Bass (3-4, 5.45). Pregame coverage on ESPN 100.9-FM gets underway at 6:35.
The Great Lakes Loons have been the Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers since the team's inception in 2007. Dow Diamond serves as the team's home and also houses the Michigan Baseball Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity, and ESPN 100.9-FM.
