SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- South Bend Cubs (Chicago Cubs) starter Rollie Lacy and reliever Ben Hecht combined to throw a no-hitter on Wednesday night at Four Winds Field in a 7-0 win over the TinCaps.

In the franchise's 25-plus-year history that dates back to 1993, the only other time Fort Wayne was no-hit in a game was on June 14, 2001, on the road against the Kane County Cougars in a 6-0 loss. (The team was then known as the Fort Wayne Wizards.)

Meanwhile, this was the first no-hitter thrown by South Bend since July 10, 2014. At the time, South Bend was affiliated with the Arizona Diamondbacks and known as the Silver Hawks.

South Bend (28-29) starter Rollie Lacy threw 96 pitches (61 strikes) in seven hitless innings. He struck out six, including the side in the seventh. Lacy didn't walk a batter until issuing a pair of free passes to right fielder Tirso Ornelas and shortstop Justin Lopez, respectively, in the seventh. Fort Wayne's only baserunner through the first six innings came in the third when TinCaps third baseman Luis Almanzar hit a bouncer to his counterpart, Jhonny Bethencourt, that was misplayed and scored as an error.

Hecht entered for the eighth and tossed two perfect innings with two strikeouts. For the final out, he fanned Ornelas on a 3-2 curveball that was called strike three on the outside part of the plate.

Lacy, a 22-year-old from Dallas who went to Creighton and was an 11th round pick last year, recorded nine groundouts and three flyouts. Hecht, a 23-year-old from Effingham, Ill., who went to Wichita State and was picked in the 12th round a year ago, recorded one out on the ground and three in the air. The Cubs didn't need to make any highlight-reel plays defensively.

In the losing effort, Fort Wayne (26-31) reliever Caleb Boushley threw a perfect inning in relief with one strikeout to lower his season ERA to 1.80. TinCaps starter Nick Margevicius, who was named a Midwest League All-Star earlier in the day, had some tough luck as he was charged with six runs (five earned), but still managed to strike out eight and not walk any in six innings.

The Cubs got on the board quickly in the bottom of the first inning. Jared Young hit an RBI single up to the middle to give South Bend a 1-0 advantage. The Cubs added three more runs in the third inning on three hits to take a 4-0 lead, and continued to add on with a run in each of the fifth, the sixth and seventh innings to increase the lead to 7-0.
