Clinton LumberKings News Release

Burlington, IA - Despite 12 strikeouts by Clinton LumberKings pitching on Wednesday night at Community Field, the Burlington Bees coasted to a 7-3 win. A five-run rally by the Bees (25-34) in the bottom of the third proved too much for the LumberKings (33-25) to overcome.

Clinton started the scoring and staked themselves to an early 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the top of the first inning. Ariel Sandoval reached on an error, stole second, and scored a Johnny Adams RBI single to right.

The first inning unearned run was all that was allowed by Burlington starter Mitchell Traver. Over his five innings of work he held Clinton to just one hit while walking two and striking out five. For his time, Traver (4-3) earned his fourth win of the season.

The lead did not hold up for LumberKings starter Ryne Inman who allowed the Bees to answer right back with a run in the bottom of the first, tying the score at one.

Inman (3-3) then ran into trouble in the bottom of the third. The Bees sent 10 men to the plate in the inning to tally five runs and chase Inman from the game. The LumberKings starter allowed the last six men he faced to reach against him with the final four registering RBI singles.

Inman was given the loss for his time out. He turned in an abbreviated 2.1 inning start for Clinton in which he allowed six runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out two.

The Bees tacked on one more run in the bottom of the fourth before the LumberKings would make a late charge.

In the top of the sixth, Sandoval singled to open the inning and scored on an RBI double by Ryan Costello that put runners at second and third with only one out. Clinton would get no more runs across in the inning when Mayky Perez retired the next two batters to leave the runners stranded in scoring position.

The LumberKings again rallied in the top of the ninth to pus across their second unearned run of the night and bring the tying run into the on-deck circle but came no closer against Bees reliever James Ziemba who picked up his third save of the season.

The LumberKings will conclude their three-game series with the Burlington Bees in Burlington Thursday night. Clinton will throw left-handed pitcher Nick Wells (3-3, 4.45) while Burlington will turn to righty Jose Soriano (0-0, -.--) who will be making his season debut. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM. Fans looking to listen to the game can hear Erik Oas on the call on 100.3 FM WCCI and online at lumberkings.com via the tune in radio ap at 6:15 PM with the pregame show.
