Beloit Sky Carp News Release
Beloit, WI - Game one and game two of the Beloit Snappers (26-30) Tuesday double-header turned in mixed reactions, with a Snappers game one 5-2 victory followed by a 14-3 defeat in game two to the Cedar Rapids Kernels (27-29).
Jared Poche got the start for the Snappers in game one, going five innings and surrendering just two runs and earned his second win of the season.
The big bat came from third baseman Jesus Lopez, who went 3-for-3 and supplied a two-run home run in the eighth inning to create breathing room. The Snappers only struck out twice offensively and kept the Kernels in check.
Game two was a different story. The Snappers held a 2-1 lead after the third thanks in part to an RBI single from Logan Farrar that plated an additional run from an error. That was the only lead and momentum of the game for the Snappers.
The Kernels plated 14 total runs and 16 total hits, both new season highs from Snappers pitching. 13 of those runs came from the third inning on, including five runs in the fifth. The Kernels hit two separate grand slams one by former first rounder Royce Lewis, the other by raining Midwest League Player of the Week and Month in Alex Kirillof.
Jean Ruiz started game two for the Snappers, going four innings, giving up eight hits, seven runs (all earned) and just one strikeout as he was tabbed with his fifth loss of the year.
In game one, Jordan Devencenzi extended his team and career high hitting streak to 18 games. Over the streak, he is hitting .349 with 10 runs and just seven strikeouts.
The Snappers will now have another double-header Wednesday with game one starting at 12:05 p.m. The Snappers starter will be right-hander Mitchell Jordan (2-0, 1.78) and for the Kernels they had yet to name their starter for game one.
The Beloit Snappers are a member of the Midwest League and have been the Single-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics since 2013. For more ticket information, contact the Snappers office at (608) 362-2272 or on our website, www.snappersbaseball.com.
